EXCERPT & TEASER

Lisa inched closer, swathed in an oversized fleece hoodie. Her eyes had regained their sparkle, though they held the question hanging between them, one he had yet to answer for himself: why the hell am I here right now?

Somehow, “you’re hot and I’m horny” didn’t cut it. It might have been his canned internal response, but not for her. Contrary to popular belief, he wasn’t a sex addict. Women were a means to an end… that end temporarily releasing him from the emotional burdens he carried day after day. Sex helped mask the wounds, but it never really healed him. How ironic he’d been sliced open protecting the one who made him want to feel something again. Talk about poetic justice.

“I wanted to make sure you were okay.” Pain shot up his forearm and his head throbbed. Christ, he needed those drugs to kick in fast. Everything hurt, but dammit,he wasn’t about to whine like some pansy ass.

“I’m fine. Much better than you, from the looks of it.”

“Yeah, well, I guess you could say I’ve done my civic duty.”

She smiled, exposing a row of perfectly straight, bright white teeth. They practically glowed. Or maybe that was the oxycontin finally taking effect. “I feel so privileged.”

A wave of nausea crashed over him. No, no, no… fuck, no. He squeezed his eyes shut until the feeling dissipated. An icy coldness snaked through his extremities, right down to his fingers. No longer were they itching to run through the waves cascading over her shoulders. Flexing them was futile. What the hell? The overhead light danced atop her golden hair. He squinted. It almost looked like a halo. And were those doves floating around her head? Somewhere in his increasingly foggy mind, he registered some kind of faint whistling. Was it the doves? Or was he just fucking insane? Numbness slowly crept over the stitched area and his mind grew cloudier. Christ, how much did Evan give him? No way was this a normal dose.

A warm hand grazed his arm. “Do you want me to call the doctor? You look a little, um, off.” Her brow furrowed. “How about some water?”

Four eyes stared back. Did she have a twin? Where had she come from? Mmm, that kind of threesome was right up his alley. “You two are so beautiful, you know that?”

“Who two?” She gnawed at her fingernail. “Maybe I should get someone. I don’t think—”

“No, don’t leave. Please. I feel great. I just want to keep looking at you guys, okay?” Voices echoed around him. How many more sisters did she have? And how did they all get into his room? So much for hospital security.

“Um, sure. You know we’re alone, right? Just you and me?”

“Yes, and your sisters. Stop biting your nails and hold my hand. The one that’s not sliced up.”

“Are you always this demanding?”

“I took a knife for you. So yeah, I think I earned the right.” He let out a deep sigh as their fingers entwined. Soft and warm. His eyelids were so heavy; forcing them to stay open was a near-impossible feat. “You like tattoos, huh?”

“Tattoos?” She tucked a loose strand of hair behind her ear, a smirk lifting her lips. “I’m not so sure we’re still on the same wavelength. What kind of painkillers did they give you?”

“I don’t know, but I can’t feel my legs anymore.”

“I’m kind of surprised your mouth still works.”

“Happy to say it’s not the only thing.”

“And here I was, thinking you weren’t as big a womanizer as the tabloids claim.”

“They don’t know me.”

“Does anybody?”

“No.” He could barely even hear his own voice. It sounded so far away, like he was speaking from deep within a cave. A snicker escaped his mouth. Where did all thecotton come from? “I feel drunk and massively hung over right now.”

She leaned closer, the scent of her perfume wafting into the air. Recalling his own name was a struggle, but even with his weakened senses, he was acutely aware of her nearness. The sensation of slender fingers smoothing back his hair lulled him to sleep. Her touch was so gentle, like a soft breeze fluttering over his skin. His mind begged him to stay focused but the eyelids drooped in utter betrayal. Even her hands smelled amazing, like flowers and… jelly beans. Warm lips grazed his forehead. He squeezed her hand with the last of his rapidly depleting energy store, struggling to open his eyes one final time. A sea of smiling faces gazed back.
“Promise you’ll visit tomorrow, okay? Bring all your sisters, too.”

Release Day : Rough & Tumble

#WhoIsBoBriggs

That’s all I saw all over social media a few years after he dumped me for a super model and was the first round draft pick for the North Carolina Hogs.

I thought I loved Bo, way back when, but it was all too cliché. He was the star quarterback and I was the head cheerleader. High school sweethearts turned college romance that crumbled when our careers twisted into different paths, or so we thought.

Oh and did I mention, I am about to start photographing his team?!

FML…This is going to be interesting to say the least.

EXCERPT & TEASER

I was startled awake. I had been falling fast in my dream and right before I hit the bottom, my eyes flew open. I quickly started to look around the foreign room. I couldn’t remember anything past seeing Brit and Roxy’s empty seats next to me at the club the night before.

I was in someone’s bed in a room I had never been in in my life. I was dressed in a large black shirt and my underwear and that was it.

How’d I get that fucked up last night?

I rolled out of bed. Hoping to figure out where the heck I was, I peered out the window. I knew that I
was downtown somewhere, but for the life of me I couldn’t place the streets and landmarks in my view.

I spun on my heels as I heard the door to the strange room open. My heart was pounding and I was
holding my breath as I waited to see who was coming in.

What the hell?

Of course, Bo Briggs slowly started to make his way over to me. I was paralyzed. He was engaged. What in god’s name was I doing in his room?

“How are you feeling?” He handed me a bottle of water and a couple Advil. His light blond hair was
shorter than it had been, and he looked downright military with his defined muscles, sleeves of tattoos, and crooked grin that always brought me to my knees.

“Fine.” I took the tiny pills and water from my hunky ex and chugged them down fast. In all reality, my head felt like it had been run over by a Mack truck. “What happened last night? Did we…?” I sunk onto the bed. Except for a few times in passing, it was the first time I had seen Bo in a few years. All the old buried feelings flooded me. I had known for a long time that I wasn’t over my ex, but I didn’t want him to ever know that.

“You were drugged last night at the club.”

My face felt hot, my palms turned clammy, and my head felt like it was about to explode. “What the fuck?” My voice crackled.

Excerpt

“May I have this dance?” Mitch extended his hand to me after throwing his napkin
on his plate, and of course it was a twostep that came on.

I shoved out of my chair. “Why the heck not?”

The drinks had already started to go to my head as Mitch led me out onto the dance
floor. The tent that had been set up in the yard was magnificent. There were
twinkling lights strung up everywhere with a few chandeliers hanging about. The DJ
had put beautiful lighting around the space to give it a nice purple hue.

“Try not to step on the shoes, they’re rented,” Mitch teased as he started to push me
around.

I didn’t know if it was the alcohol or the wedding bliss that was swimming around,
but as I looked up at Mitch as he twirled me around, I saw him in a completely
different light. His dark hair, smoldering stare, chiseled jawline, beautiful tattoos,
and smile that could last for days—it was all stunning to me.

Before my mind could overanalyze what my heart was doing, I was grabbing Mitch’s
shirt and pulling his lips down to mine. Slowly, our lips connected. Smooth and soft
at first, the sweet kiss then turned into hunger and lust. My tongue explored his
mouth and his hand slid down my back to grip my ass.

Trying to catch his breath, Mitch pulled away from me. “Are you sure this is a good
idea?”

Once his words registered, I took a step back. “Probably not.”

Mitch hugged me to his side. “If we are ever going to hook up, I don’t want either of
us to be drunk when it happens.” He kissed my forehead and handed me off to Mags
as she swished over to me. “Want a drink?” Mitch looked at both of us as we nodded.

Excerpt

In my boots and cutoff jeans, I pulled open the heavy wooden door of The Saloon.
Whiskey and cigarette smoke burned my nostrils as I weaved around the packed bar
trying to find everyone. All of a sudden, I was scooped up from behind by my waist,
feet dangling in the air and the sound of Mitch’s voice trying to yell over the music,

“Mags! Found her! I found Cali!”

I playfully struggled in his arms, whipping around to throw my arms around one of
my best friends in the world. Mags, Randy, and Walker weren’t too far behind and
right as Walker put a drink in my hand, Mags’ and my favorite line dancing song
came on. We handed our beers off to the guys and darted to the middle of the
wooden floor to boot stomp to Girlfriend by Avril Lavigne.

By the end of the fast-paced song, we were sweating and panting as we giggled off
the dance floor.

As he handed me back my beer, Randy shouted, “Thanks for everything, Cal. Mags
told me you made her see clearly again.”

I shoved his shoulder. “Don’t mention it. Besides, who can ever deny making sure
true love finds a way?”

He laughed at me and hugged me around my shoulders. It was palpable what a good
guy Randy was and how much he cared about everyone. It was also so freaking
shocking that he and Walker were as good of friends as they were.

Walker was a two-timing, womanizing bag of dicks that had no respect for anyone
except himself, and I felt like I was the only one that saw through the fakeness of his
coy smile and good looks.

“So how does it feel to be out of the bar business for good?” Mags beamed at me as
Randy wrapped his hands around her middle.

I took a long swig. “Fucking fantastic!”

“Can you believe we’re all growing up?” Walker chimed in, handing each of us a shot.

I smelled the straight Jameson, shivers immediately radiating down my spine.
“Whiskey? Really?”

Walker winked and held his shot glass in the air to make a toast. “To Cali and her
new job, and to us, the five best friends!”
