Blog Tour : Craving You

Kelsey

Being around Parker Taylor is like walking a tightrope; the feelings of lust and hate
come with the sway of my emotions. One foot in front of the other keeps my life
balanced until he causes my steps to falter. One day, I hate his perfect self, and the
next, I want to have his babies. He’s a bad habit I can’t allow myself to become
addicted to …

Parker

Being around Kelsey Whitten makes my blood rush and not only south. One minute,
I’m pushing her up on the bathroom counter, and the next, she’s cussing at me from
those sweet lips of hers. One taste from her smart mouth and I'm sign-me-up-for-a-
twelve-step-program addicted. She’s habit-forming and that doesn’t work for me …

EXCERPT & TEASERS

Taking a few deep, quiet breaths, my mind tries to wrap around the information I just eavesdropped on. When the truck engine fires up, I’m jolted out of my thoughts, wasting no time to make it to him, desperate to be near him and not knowing why.

He’s rolling down his window when I jerk his door open, out of breath from my run and the words he told Ava. Emotions feed my soul, fueling my actions.

His face displays shock while his strong arms hold the door ajar. “Kelsey?”

Stomping my foot onto the running board of his truck brings me level with his beautiful face. “Shut up,” I demand then I attack his mouth, swept up in the emotions his earlier words brought. Parker tangles one hand in my hair at the base of my neck opening my mouth further to him while his other hand squeezes my body tight to his. I can smell the sweat on him as well as feel it while I run my hands through his helmet hair. I love him messy.

We part breathing heavy before I murmur against his lips, “I’m so proud of you, Parker.”

“I’ll ride like that or better every damn time for kisses like that.” His voice rumbles through me while his eyes spark, fueling my core. “You’re cute when you blush.” He rubs our noses against each other.

“Why’re you way out here when you should be celebrating?” My breathing accelerated.

“I’m beat. I could use a sugar high, sweetness.” Oh, ooooh, is this the ride Brea was talking about?

“You just said you’re tired.”

Strong arms pull me in tighter to his body. “Never too tired for you.” Since I’m still standing on the running board , I decide to throw one leg over and straddle his lap.

The steering wheel digs into my back while his shifter digs into my center. “Askin’ for trouble,” he growls, fingertips digging into my hip bones to steady my grinding.

“I heard the ride after the ride is the best. Know anything about that?” I muse, licking my lips for good measure.

“Just might.” His teeth graze my bare shoulder while his hips thrust upward, and I let out a moan. I’m so, so thankful I decided on a sundress for today. “You’re fuckin’ killin’ me.”

“I’m ready for my run. However, I’m the only contestant.” I can feel my smile falter for a split second, and pray he didn’t notice. I don’t need my insecurities showing. “Hope I place.” Biting my bottom lip to hide my slip, I grind down on his hardness.

“Kelsey.” My name coming from his voice, rough but soft, like dead leaves rustling on the ground in the fall, hits me right in the heart. “You’re number one.” Strong handsroam over my neck, back, and shoulders as I try to push back the questions on the tip of my tongue. How many has he said that to in the past? The desert has relocated to my mouth; it’s so dry. I’m desperate to have him at this moment and to know the answer to my question. Calloused hands skim up and down my thighs while my fingers fumble to unbutton his jeans. Once the pesky zipper is finally down, I reach in, warm solid velvet greeting me and I grab a hold of my trophy. Sliding my palm back and forth, his head rises from watching me. “I need your sweetness, baby.”

One hand grips my left hip tightly as the other reaches under my skirt, finding the lace below. With ease, he slides it over, bunching it in his left hand that’s still holding my hip in place. A lone finger slides between my folds as a moan escapes me.

Parker’s lips part, absorbing my plea for more. “Please tell me you’re my prize, that this sweet pussy is mine.” My skin is hypersensitive to his touch, and his words are making it worse. If a body can call out to another, then mine is screaming for his. “Did you wear this sexy sundress for me?” His lips stealing my reply.

“Ah, yes. Parker, please …” He’s testing me, and I’m failing.

“Say you’re my prize. Tell me you want to ride my dick, Kelsey. I want to hear you fuckin’ say it because I damn sure want your beautiful pussy wrapped around me.” That dirty mouth does me in.

“If you want me as your prize, then fuck-” Thrust. He slams into me, fingers biting into the flesh of my hips, and I love it. “Yessss.” The pant escapes me as I’m filled with him

“Fuckin’ best.” Thrust. “Prize.” Thrust. “Ever.” My head falls back and the pressure of my back causes the horn to honk. I jump up trying to move off of him. “Don’t move.” I freeze and then am jolted forward as he shifts his seat back and continues. “Show me your tricks,” he muses, brow quirked up and that side smile in place.

Glancing around I see no one is surrounding the truck demanding we stop, as I thought. Everyone must be attending the after party. My body adjusts to fit him, but it feels amazing. I start to move, slow at first, but that doesn’t last long. Soon, the only sound that fills the cab is skin slapping skin. Sweat gathers on our bodies while I drown in the pleasure of having him inside me.

Parker pulls me close to him as we move together. Soft lips brush across mine. “I’ll never get enough of you.” We’re so deep in the passion of things, I can’t take his statement to heart, but damn, it’s hard. It flutters around in my ribcage, the betrayer.

“Say it again.” I pull away for a moment to gaze into his eyes, and then it hits me, so I never lose my focus on him.

“I’m so very proud of you, Parker.” The whole time, he moves slowly inside me. In and out, pause, in and out. Two becoming one and damn, for the first time in forever,

I wish I believed in fairy tales. He kisses me with so much depth, I feel it down to my toes and I cling to him. At this moment, I’m his.

Feeling him inside me brings so many emotions to the surface, emotions I’m not going to deal with. I feel him swell inside me, and I moan, “Parker.” I want him even closer, although we’re as close as two people could ever be.  I arch up as he slams into me, and I fall apart right in his arms. It hits me so hard, it’s unexpected.

“Sweetness, fuckkkk!” His teeth graze my shoulder during his climax, and my head slumps against his, exhausted. I wish I could stay in this moment forever, but now, I have to face the music. A kiss touches my shoulder where his bite marks must be, soothing it. “Kelsey.” Throat full of raw emotion, his voice causes my heart to drop out of my chest. I thought, I don’t know, I thought this meant something, but the regret in his voice doesn’t verify that.

Sliding off him and into the passenger seat, I adjust my dress and try to open the door while he buttons his jeans and slides the seat back up. Even though my heart is currently racing at full speed through my bloodstream, she finds time to let my brain know what she thinks. My brain refuses, but my soul overrules and my mouth speaks in a whisper. “I had to find you after your run and tell you how great you did. I’m … I’m so proud of you, Parker. I get it, trust me, I get what we are. Not that we are a ‘we,’ but you know what I mean.”

“No, I don’t. Tell me.” His growl startles me, and I whirl around to stare at him, his eyes burning.

“I’m not blind!”

“You sure ‘bout that? How’d you go and turn what just happened into shit? Fuck!” His fist slams against the steering wheel.

“Please, you know what the hell this is about.” I try to keep my voice calm to play off my emotions.

“Do you?” There’s a knock on the glass beside Parker. It’s a girl, shocker.

“Might wanna get that. Looks like someone else is looking for a ride too.” I go to open the door, but it’s locked. “Unlock the door.” My voice remains calm.

“Look at me.”

“No. Your next number one is here.” I know how childish I sound, but it’s the least of my worries at this moment.

The sound of his window motor fills the truck. “Hey Parker, Do you-”

“Busy.” And then he rolls it back up. “Fuckin’ look at me, Kelsey.” I don’t. Instead, I focus on the dragonfly that just landed on the hood. “My bare dick was just inside of you. Look. At. Me.”

“That doesn’t entitle you to me.”

“The fuck it doesn’t. I own that sweet pussy. Go, try and see if it wants any other flavor but me. You’ll be fuckin’ mistaken’.”

“Just might.”

“You do and that’ll be the last time you have me.”

“Maybe I don’t want you.”

“Keep tellin’ yourself that.”

“You’re an arrogant asshole.”

“Well, you attacked me for my dick today, so I must not be that bad.”

I jerk on the door handle. “Unlock this or I’ll break it.”

“Kiss me.”

I scoff. “Are you insane?”

“Again, you were just ridin’ my dick. I know you’re pissed now because you don’t understand it, but I still need a kiss.”

“Go kiss another girl.” I cross my arms.

“I don’t want any other girl.” My heart flutters. He leans over and wraps a hand around my wrist, untangling my arms. “I want you.” When I lean in to kiss him, he pulls away. “But I want you to want me just as bad as I want you.” I stare at him, dumbfounded. “I want you to crave me, and I always get what I want.”

Click.

The door unlocks, and I scurry out. Away from him and away from the feelings he erupts in me.

No, thank you. Emotionless is my comfort zone.

About The Author

Kandi Steiner is a Creative Writing and Advertising/Public Relations graduate from
the University of Central Florida living in Tampa with her husband. Kandi works full
time as a social media specialist, but also works part time as a Zumba fitness
instructor and blackjack dealer.

Kandi started writing back in the 4th grade after reading the first Harry Potter
installment. In 6th grade, she wrote and edited her own newspaper and distributed
to her classmates. Eventually, the principal caught on and the newspaper was
quickly halted, though Kandi tried fighting for her “freedom of press.” She took
particular interest in writing romance after college, as she has always been a die
hard hopeless romantic (like most girls brought up on Disney movies).

When Kandi isn’t working or writing, you can find her reading books of all kinds,
talking with her extremely vocal cat, and spending time with her friends and family.
She enjoys beach days, movie marathons, live music, craft beer and sweet wine – not
necessarily in that order.

Release Day : Soulless

Our love is imperfect in the most perfect way. It is love done our way. Raw.
Unconventional. Sexy as hell. Most importantly, it is honest to the core, or so I think.
One little, white lie shouldn't do so much damage. Yet, it changes me forever.

The worst part is that Declan whispered that sweet nothing out of protection. My
safety is on the forefront of his mind, especially since there are others who’d hurt
me simply to get at him. I never think that he would be the one to cut me so deeply.
And it all starts with that first prick—the night he saved my life.

EXCERPT & TEASERS

His perilous stare deepened as his grip fastened around my waist. The maniacal thoughts passing over his eyes confirmed that I wasn’t the only one who wanted all the space between us eliminated.

I

could hardly breathe when his gaze fell to my lips. It left me speechless. It was the very way a passing glance could leave you without words. But Declan didn’t just take a glimpse. No, he unapologetically looked me over. He

loved

me, but didn’t say them in so many words. Yet, I heard them all the same. I heard them with each moan that echoed in the air. I felt them as he held me gently in his arms. Even if I didn’t feel the desire radiating off of him in a fury of passion, he bore that intensity in his gaze. The world around us melted away until there was on me and

him.

Release Day : I Pick You

When I left Nashville, Tennessee, I knew deep in my heart I wouldn't be back. I knew
I would never be heard on every country music station around the world, and I
would never step foot on the Grand Ole Opry stage. Cold hard guilt and
responsibilities that I didn't want forced me on a different path.

Me being responsible for an eighteen-month-old was a horrible idea. Me being a
second grade teacher in a catholic school was plain ludicrous.
Life sucked, love hurt, and I didn't know who to pick.

EXCERPT & TEASERS

Kit held up the blue book with white stickers, spelling out The Bay Bible. “This book will tell you any and everything you would need to know, right down to a mosquito bite.”

I blew out a puff of air, cocky air. “I’m pretty sure I can handle a mosquito bite. I didn’t need a tab for that one. I’m not stupid, just not made for this daddy stuff.”

“What you put on your mosquito bite isn’t the same as hers. You have to be careful with all those chemicals. A little bit of baking soda and water does the same thing.”

“Oh, okay, yeah, that makes sense,” I admitted while I stepped off my pedestal, accepting defeat, the thought of my grandma using that same home remedy crossing my mind. Nope, didn’t know how to do this, and I didn’t want to. I was doomed, she was doomed, and this was a horrible idea.

“You’re going to be fine.”

That wasn’t what I was worried about. Not fully. “And what about the girl? You’re trusting someone who has never been around little kids. Ever.”

“I’m trusting her with her dad, and stop calling her the girl. Her name is Bay.”

“Yeah, I know. Why you would name a child, Bay is beyond me. Especially when your last name is Berry.”

“Hey, I gave her your name. I could have given her mine.”

“Whatever, it’s still a stupid name. How much time do I have, Kit? I have to pack up this place, get a job and get out of the city.”

Kit frowned while her head did this little jerking thing. Like I had just slapped her across her face. “You’re leaving Nashville?”

“I know you’ve only seen the ceiling of my apartment, but I’m sure you noticed the size? Where’s she going to play? Where is she going to sleep? And, what? Am I just going to make her a bed in my guitar case while I perform on the streets until two in the morning? Of course, I’m leaving Nashville.”

“I remember your apartment, idiot, but where would you go?”

“Idit,” the tiny little voice said from the bed.

Kit laughed and scolded her with a lighthearted tone. “You can’t say that.”

“I don’t know yet. I just sent out a resume right before I called. I’ll let you know when I know.”

“But what kind of job? I mean what can you do besides sing?”

I shook my head a little with that one, deciding not to tell the dumb twit. Not because I wasn’t proud of the degree I had gotten as a backup plan. It was more because she didn’t think I was capable of such an accomplishment. She didn’t know shit about me, and it pissed me off that she was so quick to judge. “Oh, I don’t know, Kit. I bet I could mow lawns, or maybe change some oil or something.”

Kit’s frown never changed and she continued to start each sentence with, but. “But where would you go? I thought you would stay close to your family. You know, so they can help with Bay.”

I did the frowning that time. “See, this is why this is wrong on so many levels. You don’t know me any more than I know you. My family lives in Michigan. Not Nashville. I came here right after high school.

“But I met your sister.”

“Bridgett, yes. She just so happened to be visiting that weekend. She doesn’t live here. She’s a social worker back home. Not here.”

I could almost see the air being exhaled as Kit’s eyebrows sank with both her shoulders. She looked back at Bay, dumping raisins onto the bed, and back to me.

“This changes things.”

“It does?” I questioned, wheels spinning like crazy in my head while I tried to contain the excitement.

“Yeah, I mean I was already having an issue with how immature you are, but moving her from place to place with no family. Yeah, I don’t know.”

Normally the immature remark would have pissed me off, but honestly, it was sort of true. Although in my defense, I had nothing to be mature about. It sounds selfish now, but at the time, I didn’t really think about Bay being my responsibility. My duty to my daughter consisted of six hundred dollars set up to automatically deposit into Kit’s bank account on the first day of every month. At least, I wouldn’t have to send that anymore. Surely a baby didn’t cost that much.

“I’m sure we’ll be fine. I’m not going to move her from place to place. Why do you think I need to know how much time I have until you fly halfway across the world?”

“You have no idea how much I want this, Brantley. It took me months to ask you. I wouldn’t even consider it if it wasn’t you.”

I didn’t understand that at all. “Why? I’ve never even been in her life.”

“Because nobody but you will love her like I do.”

I didn’t touch that one either. How could she say that, knowing we didn’t even know each other? “When do you leave?”

“Six weeks,” Kit replied in a faraway tone. Her head turned back to Bay and a smile took over her entire face.

That didn’t give me much time, but it wasn’t like she hadn’t asked six months before.

That’s just how long it took for her to talk me into it, begging and pleading until I finally caved. And I still wasn’t one hundred percent convinced. My eyes moved past Kit to Bay, throwing both hands into the air, calling out some incoherent chant, raisins scattered all around her. “I’ve never changed a diaper.”

“She’s doing great on the potty. If you’re lucky, I can have her out of diapers before you get her. There is one thing, Brantley.”

“Here it comes. What?”

“I want her back. You have to sign something promising to give her back. You can see her and get her on weekends, but you can’t keep her. I’m getting her back.”

That wouldn’t be a problem. “Sure, whatever. I’ll call you in a few days.”

“Thank you so much, Brantley.”

“Yeah, yeah. See ya.”

I closed my laptop, seeing my guitar case propped in the corner. My sad guitar. The one that I would retire for an eighteen-month-old. What the hell was I doing?

EXCERPT & TEASERS

Chad lay back on the futon in the barn office, convinced he could still hear theoccasional snap of the bonfire even though he’d extinguished it hours ago. Still, he couldn’t shake the thought, and he found himself padding across the office in his socks to peer out the window. Sure enough, the fire was completely out, and only a sliver of gray smoke still rose from the pit. He was about to head back to his bed when he noticed the strip of light shining through the partially drawn curtains upstairs in Katie’s house.

It had been more than three hours since their fireside conversation. Three hours since their kiss. Yet, Katie’s bedroom light was still on, too. She should be in a deep sleep by now. So should you, you idiot, he chastised himself silently, shaking his head at still being up so late. He initially wondered if something was wrong. Perhaps

Mason had suffered a bad dream and Katie was attempting to console him. However, as quick as the assumption flitted into his mind, it was quashed. She’s awake for the same reason you are, he told himself.

Their kiss. The tender way they’d embraced each other. Chad had never experienced the same things Katie had in life, and he wouldn’t pretend to have endured her pain. That said, only those who’d hit their own personal rock bottom could identify with the despair and anguish Katie had been subjected to. He didn’t necessarily know her, but he understood her, at least enough to offer her the only thing he really had to give.

His heart.

EXCERPT & TEASERS

I fumble with the keycard, finally putting it into the slot on the third attempt. Hisvoice stops me before I close my door.

“Britta?”

“Yeah?”

He runs another hand through his hair and looks up at me. “This sounds extremely cheesy but can I get your phone number? I’d like to see you tomorrow if it’s possible.”

A smile crawls across my face. Jutting the latch for the door out so I don’t get locked out, I walk over to him as he holds out his phone to me. Quickly entering my information into it for him, I smile and hand it back.

“Give me a call sometime,” I say, walking backward to my propped open door.

James looks down at his phone and smirks. “I like the smiley face after your name.”

“Goodnight, James.”

“Goodnight, Britta.”

I close the door behind me and secure it, just in case he’s used his charm and somehow got a key to my room as well. It wouldn’t shock me if he did. My fingers trace my lips; his kiss still lingering there makes me smile wider.

As I’m unpacking my suitcase, my phone beeps in my purse. Knowing who it is, I quickly swipe at the screen.

HI.

Hi? I give him my phone number and all he types is hi? What the hell? Another message comes through, this time making me laugh.

SORRY, THAT WAS LAME.

I settle against the headboard of my bed, barely noticing how comfortable I am in having this conversation with my former teacher. Can I call him a former teacher?

Don’t think, just feel I tell myself.

YOU’RE REALLY BAD AT THIS YOU KNOW.

His response is almost immediate.

I’M NERVOUS.

SERIOUSLY? YOU’RE 22. YOU SHOULD BE OVER THAT.

IT’S NOT MY AGE. IT’S YOU THAT MAKES ME NERVOUS.

ME?

I LIKE YOU.

Whoa. That’s probably the first time he’s ever directly said anything like that to me.

Yes, we’ve been dancing around it, saying we feel something toward each other but nothing this direct, at least not that I can remember saying out loud. My heart pounds wildly in my chest as I type my reply.

I LIKE YOU TOO.

HOW MUCH?

A LOT.

CAN I KISS YOU AGAIN?

YOU DON’T HAVE TO ASK. YOU CAN JUST KISS ME.

There’s a knock on my door and I smirk, knowing who’s going to be on the other side. I open the door wide and am greeted by his hands cradling my face. His warm breath beats on my lips followed by the gentle brush of his mouth against mine. He steals my breath on a gasp and I succumb to the kiss, grabbing his biceps to keep him close. His fingers thread through my hair as his tongue explores my mouth, gently probing inside with slow, deep licks.

This kiss consumes me, igniting a fire within that cannot be extinguished. It’s everything I want from a kiss and more because it’s from him. I can feel his heartbeat against my chest and I fight the urge to drag him into my room.

We slowly pull away, keeping each other in our sight. With a gentle brush of his lips against my nose, he smiles and backs away.

“That is a proper goodnight,” he says, swiping his key in the lock.

“Uh huh,” is all I can say. He’s kissed me speechless, which is quite the feat I must say. I’m always the girl who knows what to say and when to say it. But as this beautiful man stands across the hall, looking at me as if I’m the only person in the world, all my words are gone. Nothing is left. The only thing that remains is him.

“Goodnight, Britta. Get some sleep.”

“Uh huh.”

I’m left with his quiet laugh as his door shuts and latches, leaving me standing in the doorway in a stupor. He just kissed me to within an inch of my life and then left me to dwell on it. Turning back into my room, my head fuzzy and dazed, I lie on my bed and stare at the white ceiling above me.

He likes me.
I like him.
He kissed me.
He’s the best kisser I’ve ever kissed.
This is bad.

I’m so fucked.

EXCERPT

Twisting a path through the remains of the fallen Metus, Dev tried not to think further about his own recent loss of soldiers, knowing they would be mourned silently, the Terra way. Instead he searched for something that might explain why the creatures were able to move so close to Terra’s borders undetected. The thought sent a chill down his spine. What if they had shown up like that near him and Molly? He was a good fighter, but he wasn’t that good. Rubbing the worn area on his Arcus strap, he took a moment to look up into the night’s sky, watching the endless stream of sleeping minds zipping by. How many were infected with nightmares tonight? How many were adding to their enemy’s numbers?

His main solace rested in the fact that Molly was awake now, her mind untouchable. But they wouldn’t always get so lucky. And he wondered if that was Terra’s plan. Could the energy he knew was churning inside her be used to fight? Defend?

Turning toward the city, Dev caught the approach of the medic vehicles, their sleek chrome bodies designed to camouflage their surroundings. As they hovered to settle beside a few injured Nocturna, their soft hums grew quieter. Sweeping the perimeter, Dev looked for any lingering orange forms in the distance, but all remained dark, undisturbed. Still, his muscles stayed alert, for there was now a truth not even Rae or Aveline could deny—things were changing. The Metus hadn’t attacked in packs for decades, a behavior that meant their numbers were growing rapidly.

Shoving a hand into his front pocket, Dev sought out the tiny round object that rested within and began to trace the spiral design over and over with his thumb as his thoughts similarly looped with disquiet. For this change only meant one thing for his land.

Cover Reveal : Love Will

The brilliant mind of 24-year-old Will Rosser never rests. Literally. Scientifically-
inclined and musically-gifted, he thinks in equations, hears songs in colors, dreams
in geometric shapes and is forever trying to solve the world’s unsolvable problems.
Whether he’s trying to escape his unpleasant childhood or forget the mistakes he
perpetuates with women he barely knows, he rarely finds a moment’s peace.

When his best friend, Damon, invites him to go on tour as his lead guitarist, Will
decides it’s a chance to get away from his bad habits in New York and to make some
changes in his life. He’ll have to walk away from a career few people are suited for,
but he knows in his heart he’ll return to his work as an astrophysicist once he gets
his life on track.

There are parents to forgive or forget, and for Will, they’re decisions he won’t take
lightly. He strives to make his siblings proud; to no longer have them make excuses
for him. He has to consider his personal life. The only time he ever allowed himself
to love a girl, she broke his heart, the pieces splintering around him as he flew
across country from Utah to New York when he was just a teenager.

Most of all, though, Will wants peace of mind–something he’s never had–and he
knows the only way to get that is to face his painful past.

For Will, a tour across the States allows him to reconstruct the man he’s known he’s
capable of being. He comes face-to-face with his own demons, making choices along
the way that threaten some relationships and strengthen others. He meets Shea, a
woman that challenges him, and a spark ignites on a blustery, winter night.

Just as Will thinks he’s safe to fall in love again, he’s reminded that his past will
always be his past, and no matter how distant, it will follow him wherever he goes.
When that past threatens his future, Will’s sleepless nights return, and the woman
he has fallen for has to decide where in his life she belongs.

EXCERPT & TEASER

On my way back to the hotel, I see Damon eating alone in a burger joint. “Mind if I
join you?”

“Not at all. If you haven’t eaten, you should get the Baby Bella. Oh, my God.”

“That’s what you’re eating?” He nods. A waitress arrives within seconds, and I point
to his burger to show her it’s what I want. “And a Coke, please.” I catch myself
watching her as she walks away. I can’t deny that she’s attractive. In hopes of getting
my mind off her, I glance around at the other patrons. “Is it me, or does this place
make you want to grow a full beard and become a mountain man?”

“Definitely.”

“These river trips and shit? We need to come back and do that sometime.”

“When the beards come in,” he says with a mouthful of food.

“Of course.”

“Where’s everyone else?”

“I’m sure Ben’s gettin’ some action from his girl online…”

“That was a given, man.”

“Tavo’s playing pool at this cowboy bar. It has saddles for barstools. I’m not shittin’
you.”

“Pool, huh? Could I make some money?”

“You gonna go hustle? Some scrawny city boy in that place? Mountain men, Will. We
just talked about that.”

“They don’t scare me. And whatever, I’m not scrawny.” I puff out my chest just to
make my point… but I’m not.

“Compared to Wooly Mammoth over there, and his sidekick, Big Bad John?” He nods
to two guys in plaid flannel shirts walking down the street as if they’ve just
dismounted a couple of bulls. “Pretty sure they had an axe to grind with you before
you even walked in just because of your damned Yankees cap.”

“Fuck you and fuck your Mets.” He laughs at me as the waitress sets down a soda for
me.

“You’re not scrawny,” she says softly to me, poking her head in between us.

“See? Thank you.”

“You’re welcome.” She flutters her lashes at me, smiling.

Damon’s staring at me when my eyes meet his. “What?”

“Nothing.”

“Why are you looking at me like that?”

“Why were you looking at her like that?”

“Like what?”

“Like you wanted to mount her and grind your axe into her…”

“Oh, shut the fuck up. I was not.” He raises his brows. “Jesus Christ, I’m not sure if
you’re aware of this, but the hormones don’t just stop flowing when you meet a
woman you like.”

“A hundred bucks says she gives you her number… and you’ve got your own room
here for one more night. This has ethical dilemma written all over it.”

“It does not! And I’m not taking that bet. I’m saving my money.”

He chuckles. “You know she’s giving you her digits.”

“Probably…” I can’t help it if I know the signs. “I’m not gonna keep them… or call her.

Why don’t you ask her out?”

“Not my type. She has no meat on her bones whatsoever. I have to have something
to hold on to.”

“You’re saying if she came on to you, you’d turn her down?” I ask him point blank.

He thinks for just a split second. “No.”

“Dipshit. Hey, you didn’t mention Peron… what’s he up to?”

“He was in the fitness center.”

“No, I said Peron.” He nods. “Peron’s working out?”

“Treadmill.”

“I might have a running buddy?” I ask, over-dramatically.

“You might…”

“Here’s your burger.” Our waitress takes a seat on the empty stool next to Damon.

“You’re Damon Littlefield, aren’t you?”

I grin as I take a bite of my food, now wishing I’d taken the bet. It would have been a
quicker and easier way to make money than a round of pool. Nah, I like a little bit of
a challenge.

“I hear you like to have a little fun,” she flirts.

“Yeah,” he admits to her.

“Into three-ways?”

He clears his throat before answering. “My favorite of all the ways.”

“So stupid,” I whisper under my breath, earning an elbow in my side.

“What about him?” she asks, nodding at me. I shake my head politely.

“Not Will’s favorite thing…”

“But… would he?”

“I think he might want to know who the third party was.”

“No,” I say, trying to be polite.

“Oh, it’d be you,” she says to Damon.

“Wait, what?” he asks.

She has my attention, too. “Sorry?” I’m biting my lip, stifling a laugh if she’s
suggesting what I think she’s suggesting.

“I wanted to see if you two wanted to have a three-way with me.”

“Oh, God, no,” Damon says even before the laughter escapes my lips. “No, see… it’s
not like that with us. No. We’ve known each other for too long.”

“Eight years. And neither of us are, uh… curious at all, in that aspect. Sorry. I’ve
already seen more of Damon than I ever want to.”

“You wouldn’t have to do anything with each other… just, you know… watch… and
maybe touch.”

“Oh, we know…” I say. We’ve seen porn, thank you very much. “I have to pass. Damon,
you’re a handsome guy, but, uh…”

“You’re an ugly son-of-a-bitch,” he tells me. “Fuck that.”

We both start laughing as our waitress gets up, clearly embarrassed. “Look, I’m
flattered,” I tell her. “We–we–are flattered. It’s just not something we’re into.”

She nods, smiles, and returns to us. “Well, I get off at nine, if either one of you are
interested in a little solo action…”

“I’ll be here at five after,” Damon says quickly. “And if you have a girl friend you
want to bring…”

“For him?” she asks, nodding to me.

“For him, or for us…” he says.

I glare at him, then start shaking my head vehemently. “Not for me. That’s all you
guys. Or maybe Tavo. Or Peron. Or anyone other than me.”

“I’ll see what I can do,” she says. “I’m Ralli, by the way.”

“Cute name,” Damon says. “Suits you.”

“I might need one of these alcoholic shakes to get this image out of my head,” I joke
with him.

“Might I suggest the Mudslide?” he asks. “Dark chocolate oozing with sweet, vanilla
custard.”

“Awww, fuck,” I say, throwing down my burger on my plate. “You’re the absolute
worst.” He can’t stop laughing, and eventually I join in with him, now thinking about
how ludicrous her invitation was. When I can talk, I finally pose a question to him.

“Do we look like we swing both ways?”

“Compared to…” He gestures to the abundance of mountain men around us.

“Yeah, we’re not coming back until we get the facial hair thing figured out.”

“You better start now.”

“Mine grows fast!” I argue, feeling the stubble on my chin.

“Your mustache takes awhile, though. The beard’s good, but there’s something
weird about part of your upper lip.”

“It’s a scar, you idiot. It’s never gonna grow right.” I drag my finger over the line on
my lip that I can barely even feel anymore.

“I guess we can’t come back.”

“I don’t think mountain men will take points off for a scar. Girls even like it. You just
have to be perfectly coiffed. Can’t have a single imperfection… spend more on
beauty products than any woman I know.”

“But feel my skin.” He picks up my hand.

“No!” I pull my hand back into my body, chuckling again. “We do look like we swing
both ways. It’s your fault, too.”

He puts his arm across my shoulders and plants a kiss on my cheek.

“We’re so getting beat up as soon as we walk out of this place…” I mutter.

“We’re both too pretty.”

“I’m not shaving anymore,” I vow. “So, Ralli, huh?” I ask him, starting to eat again.

About The Author

After an exhilarating, collaborative writing project, Lori L. Otto had an idea for an
original novel. The characters and their rich stories would keep her awake at night,
and even with barely any sleep, she felt more alert and alive than she had in years.
Her days off were spent in cafés, sandwich shops and bookstores, feverishly trying
to get all of the details out of her head and onto paper.

In the spring of 2009, after a few months of writing, Lori decided to tweak one
chapter from the novel-in-progress and enter it as a short story in the 78th Annual
Writer’s Digest Writing Competition, where she was awarded Honorable Mention in
the Mainstream/Literary Short Story category.

A year later, she completed a series of three novels–Lost and Found, Time Stands
Still, and Never Look Back–which were published in the spring of 2011. Since then,
she has published seven more full-length novels and two novellas, as well as a book
of extras and short stories. Her current work-in-progress, Love Will, is scheduled to
be released in April of 2016.
