Blog Tour : The Sanctuary + GIVEAWAY

Zoey Valentine is finally safe, tucked way miles underground in the
fortified community of the Sanctuary. She can finally breathe easily.
But Sanctuary is far from what she imagined and she can’t help but
feel trapped. Razi Cylon may be dead but Sekhmet, her evil
corporation that created the Awakened, is still out there and it’s not
long before citizens of Sanctuary are disappearing and reappearing,
dead and mutilated, each one tagged with a note, a warning, signed by
Razi herself.

Problem is, Razi should be dead and when she starts to threaten
everything Zoey has fought so hard for, she’s ready to fight. Sekhmet
has existed for far too long and Zoey has had enough.

It's time to end it all.

EXCERPT

I was folding shirts in the corner of the room when Ash walked over to me, grabbed
a shirt from the pile and started folding with me. He stayed like that, in silence, as
he folded three or four shirts before he finally whispered, “Follow me.”

I dropped the shirt in my hands and followed him through the room. We snuck out
the door and down the hallway. Ash’s fingers circled my wrist as he opened a
nondescript door and pulled me through.

We were in a supply closet. It looked like mostly medical supplies. It was dark until
Ash flipped the switch and a low glow filled the small space.

“Well, this is cozy,” I remarked, looking around.

“Hey, it’s the best I could do under short notice,” Ash shot back. “I scoped this
place out all week.” We stared at each other for a long moment before we both
burst out laughing and I practically launched myself at him. It felt damn good to be
in his arms and I couldn’t help how happy I felt.

It wasn’t the first time we had snuck off and had these moments with each other
but it was getting harder and harder to make it happen. There weren’t a lot of
places in Sanctuary for privacy and it was hard to get away from the endless duties
we were committed to by living here. We took every single moment that we could
to spend with each other. I never knew when I would get another one.

“God, I miss you,” Ash said, his cheek pressed tightly against the top of my head.

“How is it possible that I see you every single day but you feel miles away?” I
asked, folding myself tighter into him. “Sneaking off every once in awhile just isn’t
enough.”

“I know we’re safe and all that, but god I hate that I can never see you or spend
time with you or even just hug you.”

“Agreed.”

“How are you doing? Really?” Ash asked, pulling away from me a little bit so he
could look me in the eye.

“I’m fine,” I assured him quickly. Ash was there when the doctors talked to me
about PTSD so I wasn’t surprised that he looked doubtful, his eyebrows jumping
high on his forehead. I laughed. “Really, I am.”

“No more nightmares?”

I squirmed uncomfortably. “Not...often.”

“Zoey...”

“Don’t ‘Zoey’ me. You’re the only person here that doesn’t look at me like I’m
suddenly going to go on a bender or something. I’m fine. I’m not going to break.”

“I know you’re not,” he inserted. “Sometimes I just...I forget that. But that doesn’t
mean I’m not worried about you, Zoey. That doesn’t mean I’m not going to care
that you’re still alone in that bed, scared.”

My lips pressed tightly together and my fingers clenched tightly at his waist. “I’ll be
okay. I promise.”

“I know you will. If there’s anything I’m sure of, it’s you.” He winked at me and I
smirked. The fact that the Ash Matthews charm was still in full force, even after the
awful year that we had just had, meant that there was some normalcy in the world.
“Now come here.”

His lips came down on mine and I answered with enthusiasm, my hands wrapping
tightly around the back of his neck. A low rumble went through his chest, as his
hands reached for the hem of my shirt. His hands were cool on my warm skin and I
pressed myself tighter to him as my tongue traced a quick sweep of his lower lip.

He groaned loudly, and lifted me up easily, placing me on a cart tucked against the
wall. Supplies went everywhere, but neither of us really noticed.

My heart was beating fast in my chest as he placed a few light bites across my
collarbone. A low moan escaped my lips and a smile stretched across his face as
his hand pressed tight against my ribcage. My skin burned at the contact, even
with the clothes between us. I grabbed the hem of his shirt and started yanking it
over his head, tossing it somewhere behind him. My hands skimmed over his hard
chest, loving the way the goosebumps raised under my fingertips. Ash deepened
the kiss, his fingers tight on the back of my neck.

“Ash?” I managed to say in between the ridiculously amazing kisses he was laying
on me.

“What is it, beautiful?” he whispered, his lips tracing an impossibly sweet trail along
my jawline.

“I love you,” I said, my fingernails digging into his skin as my hands gripped his
arms.

The smile he gave me was like a thousand fireworks in the dimly lit closet. His
hands ran down my spine, causing little gasps to escape my lips, before they
landed on my waist. He tugged me closer to him. “I love you. Always.”

GUEST POST

Tips for a new writer and how to get over writer's block

Some of the best writing advice that I ever received came from one of favorite authors
and dear friend, Jessica Brody. I have been writing since I was nine years old, but I didn’t
finish my first novel until I was 19. Finishing a book is hard work and getting past what
people call “writer’s block” is hard. I used to think writer’s block was a thing. For some
people, it is. For me, I don’t really believe in writer’s block. Instead, I think its less of a
block and more of a...trying too hard thing.

I usually know what I want to have in my stories, even if its just a vague outline. Figuring
out what happens next has never been a problem. I don’t think that’s a problem for a lot of
authors. The story is in our heads. It’s getting it down on paper that is just so hard!

I think what happens is that we try so hard to write everything perfectly! We want all the
words on the page to just come out and be perfect as soon as we write them and it
doesn’t quite work like that, you know? So we sit there in front of our computers and we
overthink and we struggle.

One of the biggest pieces of advice I received was from Jessica and she said it during a
panel at WonderCon back in 2013, and it honestly helped me to complete the three
novels and one novella that I’ve written since then. She told the audience, “don’t be afraid
to write crap. Crap makes great fertilizer.”

And it's so true! We are so afraid of writing pure utter crap that we don’t write anything at
all and I think that’s the issue of “writer’s block”. You can’t be afraid to write badly
because everyone writes badly! I don’t care who you are; all authors write horribly. But
that’s okay. Because you get it down on paper and you can go back. You can fix it and
rearrange it and you can figure out what works and what doesn’t. You can’t fix a blank
page. You have to give yourself permission to just write really badly. Something is better
than nothing.

To kind of go hand in hand with that, I would also say, don’t put so much pressure on
yourself. Don’t compare yourself to other authors. Don’t ever put these impossibly high
standards on yourself. Don’t think, well I’m not that good, or I’m not as good as so-and-so,
because you’re already dooming yourself to fail before you’ve even written a word. Just
write your book. Write your story. It’s going to be brilliant because it's YOUR story. There
aren’t any new stories anymore. There aren’t. We’re all telling the same stories but they’re
also different. All of them. Because each story is told by a different person and that’s what
makes them great. What you’re writing doesn’t have to be groundbreaking or new. It
already is because YOU’RE telling it. Just tell your story and write it badly and then write
it badly again and then edit it and do it again. The right story is going to come out.

EXCERPT & TEASERS

Needing a break from the vocabulary volcano erupting from Eric’s mouth, I excuse myself and go to the restroom.

Once there, I spend one minute lightly banging my head against the stall door and then exit to spend
another two staring at myself absentmindedly in the dirty mirror as I blow my cheeks out like a blowfish.

I dare not text Harlow about how bad this date is going because she would just tell me I am a Ridiculous Rhonda or some shit. Before I exit, I grab a paper towel and use it to open the door. I thrust my foot out when it swings open to hold it there while I discard the paper towel. The boisterous restaurant grows louder as I emerge down the dimly lit narrow hallway until I am halted by a wall of steel. A wall of steel that smells of vanilla with just a hint of pine.

“Well, if you wanted a hug Lundy, all you had to do was ask,” Maverick says as he smiles down at me with his perfect teeth, and equally perfect twinkling set of hazel eyes. He blows out a small breath, and I catch a whiff of the beer he’s been drinking.

“Ugggh Maverick, don’t you have someone to arrest or something?” My eyes shift attempting not to get sucked into his orbit. It’s like he’s a male Medusa, if I look I might turn to stone.

“My day off, and why would I want to leave the show you’re putting on for us?” His brows bounce twice.

My eyes roll to the ceiling as I cross my arms over my chest. “What show Maverick?” I breathe out
unamused by his banter.

He jerks his head back and to the left. “That disastrous date you’re on with that pussy sitting out there.” Apparently, this statement tickles his small mind, and he chuckles to himself. He has a point, but I would never agree with him.

“He’s not a pussy, Maverick. You might actually learn some manners from him.”

“HA! Lundy, now I’m no gynecologist, but I know a pussy when I see one.” His nose wrinkles causing his mouth resembles a bunny as he begins to sniff the air.

“What are you doing?” I ask through gritted teeth.

“Yep, I smell his pussy-ness from here.” A shit eating grin gradually appears on his face.

I tuck my lips tuck between my teeth as my head shakes with disappointment at Maverick. Seriously,
this dude isn’t right in the head, and I if I stay around his crazy much longer I might become equally
insane. “I’m done with this conversation.” I take one step to the right, and Maverick moves to block me.

“What the fuck, Maverick? Move.” I step to the left, and he blocks me again. This time stretching his
hands out to grab the door frame, displaying his solid mass of human perfection. The t-shirt he is
wearing hugs every tensed, perfectly sculpted muscle for dear life.

He waggles his brows and his mouth pulled into an amused smile. “Nope, as an officer of the law I
cannot allow you to subject yourself to any more of that guy’s pussy-ness today.”

“You’re incorrigible you know that?”

He shrugs, his face falling unreadable as he contemplates his answer. “I’ve been called worse.”

An unspoken dual initiates in this dimly lit hallway as our gazes challenge each other. Each of us carefully calculating our next move. I get on my tip toes to where my nose is leveled with his jaw line and lean in toward his ear. I hear the slow inhale as he takes in the scent of my coconut shampoo.

“Careful Maverick, we vampires like to bite in the dark.” I open my mouth to make a chomping noise
with my teeth to drive my threat home. I guess I misjudged the close proximity of my mouth to his ear, because when I bite down, I have a mouth full of Maverick’s earlobe between my teeth. The salty taste of his blood oozes through my teeth and then invades my mouth. My eyes go wide as Maverick’s scream fills the empty hallway, luckily they are muffled by the rowdy patrons.

He pulls back, eyes full of shock, his hand cupping his left ear which is dripping blood. “Holy shit, you Mike Tyson’d me!”

My hands cover my face as I stare on in horror. Not at Maverick having a hissy fit, but of Eric as I catch him watching on with a look of disgust tinged with a hint of horror before he turns and quickly exits the restaurant.

Release Day : The Summer Games: Out of Bounds

I despise Erik Winter.

He’s arrogant and cruel—a man I wouldn’t wish on my worst enemy—and by some twisted turn of fate, he’s my new Olympic gymnastics coach.

I’ve had to contend with gruff coaches in the past, but Erik is far worse. His stern demeanor
complements a body built for intimidation, and his reprimands come from a mouth so cunning, I know it could strip me of my defenses—if I let it.

Though each of us would love to be rid of the other forever, we are bound to each other by need and
necessity. I’m his rising star, his best shot at proving himself to his critics. And without a coach, I have zero chance of winning gold in Rio.

The easiest way forward would be to wave a white flag and make peace with the man I’ll be sharing
close quarters with for the foreseeable future, but he is intent on war.

Fine. By. Me.

If he pushes me, I’ll push back harder. If he wants to test me, to play with my head, I’ll show him just
how many boundaries I’m willing to cross. Because I know it’s not a choice between winning or
warring—not if you can have them both. At the end of it all, I plan on leaving Rio with gold around my neck and his icy heart in the palm of my hand.

"Let me add," she says with a smirk, "sex and Mason are like desserts."

"What?" I burst out laughing.

"Now listen to me. Sex and Mason are like desserts. There are many sides of Mason
and sex consists of different positions all of this like dessert. You see a dessert case
and there's everything from fruit tarts to red velvet cake to brownies."

"I'm getting hungry now, thanks."

"Oh shut up," Tonya laughs and continues with her ridiculous explanation. "These

DEVASTATION

Moving back home wasn't anything I ever wanted.
But after enduring the worst,
Going home was the only answer.
Being back is everything I thought it would be...
Awful, isolating, a constant reminder of what I lost.
And the last thing I need-- or want-- is more reminders of my past,
Especially Bryant Wood.

GUILT

That's all I feel-- all I can see when I look at Savannah Turner.
I want to hold her, feel her, love her,
And thank her for what's she given me.
But I can't show her the gratitude.
The relief.
The gift she's given me.
I won't.
It'll ruin everything.
A secret I must keep-- a secret that could break her.
Shatter her.
Destroy her.
All over again.

Cover Reveal : Weightless

I remember the lights.

I remember I wanted to photograph them, the way the red and blue splashed across his cold,
emotionless face. But I knew even if my feet could move from the place where they had cemented
themselves to the ground and I could run for my camera, I wouldn’t be able to capture that moment.

I had trusted him, I had loved him, and even though my body had changed that summer, he’d made sure to help me hold onto who I was inside, regardless of how the exterior altered.

But then everything changed.

He stole my innocence. He scarred my heart. He took everything I thought I knew about my life and fast- pitched it out the window, shattering the glass that held my world together in the process.

I remember the lights.

The passionate, desperate, hot strikes of red. The harsh, cruel, icy bolts of blue.

They symbolized everything I endured that summer.

And everything I would never face again.

Rhodes ran a hand through his still-damp hair as he watched me look around. “You want something to drink?”

My eyes found his but dropped a little to note the way his shirt was still sticking to his abdomen. “Just water is fine.”

He nodded, stepping into the kitchen long enough to grab a glass and fill it with ice and water from the fridge. Setting it down on the counter in front of me, he lifted a thumb and pointed to the room down the hall behind him. “I just need to shower real quick. You can too, if you want.”

I swallowed hard, my eyes practically bulging from my head. And for the first time — Rhodes laughed.

Well, he chuckled.

“I meant when I’m done, Natalie.”

“I know,” I said quickly. I totally didn’t know. “I will. When you’re done. I have extra clothes.” Why did I say that?

He quirked a brow. “Guess I won’t be seeing you naked tonight, then.” I thought he was joking, but
couldn’t be sure because he left it at that without so much as another smile before turning and
disappearing down the hall.

I quickly guzzled down the glass of water he’d given me and refilled it. I needed to cool down. Way
down.

end of summer and then college in the fall. Her schedule was full.

Murphy told herself that she could walk away from August without any
repercussions. If only her heart had listened.

Walking away at the end of the summer was difficult. But they agreed to keep in
touch and see each other whenever possible. They still didn't put a label on their
relationship.

Eventually August showed his true self. He was so ashamed, he hid his secret from
her for as long as possible. Now that his secret was out, Murphy had no clue how to
handle it.

Will she stay with him so they can deal with it together? Or will it be too much for
her to take on?

EXCERPT & TEASERS

I took a drink of my tea. “I was supposed to just walk away after ten days. I thought
that was possible. But clearly I was naïve in thinking so.”

“Hey. Don’t beat yourself up.”

“What if all this is too good to be true? They say if it’s too good to be true then it’s
not real. I’m scared that August and I will drift apart, and I don’t know if I can handle
that.”

She reached over and covered my hand with hers. “Quit over thinking it. Just go with
it. Don’t you think you deserve to feel this way? He’s your first boyfriend. Yeah,
you’ll have doubts, even fights. But that’s why they invented makeup sex.” She
grinned.

“Melanie!”

She laughed. “Anyway, it’s good to sit and chat, but I should get you back.”

“Will you tell Mom hi for me? And that I love her. And that I’m sorry.”

Melanie stood and hugged me. “Of course. I got your back, always.” She flicked my
hair over my shoulder.

We loaded back into the car and headed back to the house. We talked candidly on
the way back, and soon, we arrived. “I guess I’ll say bye to you now. I don’t know if
I’ll stop at the house or not.” She exited the car and hugged me tight.
