EXCERPT

After a brief moment of stunned gawking, I managed a smile and tore my gaze from
those sexy, full lips. I didn’t know how I forced my legs to move me onto that
elevator. Once I was on, I turned my back in an attempt to guard myself from him.

“What floor?” His tone sounded amused, although the alluring timbre of his voice
sent a shiver down my spine.

The one we were standing on would have sufficed for what I had in mine.

“Um, seven,” I replied over my shoulder. My voice caught slightly in my throat.

God, he smelled divine, like leather and fresh spring rain. He reached forward
around me. I could feel his eyes on me while he pressed the button to take us up. It
was hard to breathe so near him, as if all the oxygen burned away by the sizzling
attraction between us. I’d known he was gorgeous before, I’d met plenty of
attractive men in my life, but this was different. I tried again to remind myself he
was just another job. I couldn’t afford to lose control.

Still, standing so close to him, I realized what I’d seen of him before was like gazing
at a distant star. You recognized its light, its beauty, but it wasn’t until you were
sucked into its orbit you could fully appreciate its power. That’s how I felt being
alone in his presence. As if some invisible yet undeniable force was drawing me in.
Gravity.

“This must be my lucky day.” I chanced a glance over my shoulder as he resumed his
relaxed position against the wall, seemingly unaffected.

My stomach tightened and I pulled the portfolio closer to my chest. I was certain he
could hear my heart pounding in the relative silence.

No, fuck that. I had to get it together. It was just a simple case of instant chemistry,
and he was just another man—a job, nothing more, nothing less. Sure, I’d never felt
anything like it before, but that didn’t matter. So what if he’d caught me off guard,
and I’d wanted to fuck him the instant I laid eyes on him. It might not have been
exactly what I’d planned for, but this was an opportunity, not only to get the job
done, but also to have one hell of a good time doing it. I could roll with it.

GIVEAWAY

Release Day : Fumbled

A good love story always begins the same way.

A chance meeting.

A sizzling look.

A flat tire…

Dani Miner could have been voted least likely to be a damsel in distress.

Tabor Hunter should have been voted most likely to do the rescuing.

So when Dani gets a flat tire on her way home one evening, she is, at first, less than
thrilled to be helped out by a man that is clearly too charming for his own good.
Even if he is handsome. And buff. And the king of the thousand watt smile.

However, prickly Dani is eventually charmed by her hottie knight in shining
sunglasses. And a brief moment spent on the side of the road on a hot summer
evening quickly leads to a first date.

But what Dani doesn’t realize is that she has just agreed to go out with the very
famous defensive end for the San Diego Quakes. And Tabor is thrilled to finally meet
a woman who doesn’t fall at his overly athletic feet. This year's most valuable player
is excited to have a chance to be an ordinary guy with a less than ordinary woman.

But being a celebrity can put a real kink in your love life and Dani, a woman used to
a much quieter life, is soon caught up in the high paced world of fame and football.

Falling in love is easy. Falling in love with a sports star is another story.

Can Dani figure out how to play the game before she fumbles her chance at
happiness?

EXCERPT & TEASER

“Come. On,” I grunted, pulling one way and pushing another. “Stupid piece of junk!”

I threw the tire iron on the ground and jumped out of the way when it bounced. The
last thing I needed was a bruise because I was a clumsy dumbass. I kicked the black
rubber before wiping my hand across my face to move the stray auburn hair that
clung to my forehead. My knees were blackened from the dirty asphalt and my
hands were covered in brownish muck.

I was a complete mess.

I wiped my hands on my thighs and sat down on the curb, preparing to call my dad
to drive over and save me.

“Do you need some help?” a low voice asked.

The sun blazed down, obstructing my view. Not even shielding my eyes seemed to
help. All I could make out was a towering shadow a few feet away that was
intimidating as hell. A gray Range Rover was parked behind him across the street,
and I assumed it belonged to Mr. Tall-and-Helpful. He squatted down next to the
tire, giving me an unobstructed view of him.

He wore gold-rimmed aviators and a baseball cap that hid his face well. But his full
lips that were curved into a smirk had me entranced. I tried to avert my eyes to
anywhere but his lips, knowing that he might be able to see exactly what I was
thinking.

I cleared my throat and dropped my gaze, and it landed on the white T-shirt clinging
to his chest. His pecs were straining beneath the thin material and it dawned on me
as I continued to look him over that his muscles appeared to be bulging everywhere.
Hell, his neck was probably the same size as one of my thighs.

After my breakup with Philip the year before, I’d sworn to myself that I would never
rely on a man again—even for something as small as a tire change.

Don’t get me wrong, I wasn’t a man-hater by any means. I loved men. But I’d
depended on Philip so heavily that I’d started to lose myself in the process. Once I’d
found me again, I didn’t want to let go.

But sometimes you need help, whether you want to admit it or not.

“I—I’ll be fine,” I lied, scrambling to my feet to give me some distance. I had a better
view of the guy and I was unable to say anything more. Mr. Tall-Helpful-and-
Gorgeous let out a disarming huff and it shook me from my perusal of his body.

“I’m sure you will,” he said before stepping around me, picking up the tire iron, and
pointing to the flat.

“Sure.” I shrugged. “I’ve only been trying for the last fifteen minutes.”

“I know.” He smirked as he placed it over the lug nut. With one strong push, he
loosened it.

“You know?” I questioned, laughing softly. “How long have you been watching me?”

“Looked like you were determined to do it alone. Didn’t want to step on your toes,”
he said without a hint of sarcasm.

“Oh,” was all I could say in response.

His hands moved swiftly, removing the rest of the lug nuts and setting them aside. I
was fascinated at how easy the whole thing was for him, and I was grateful for his
help.

“I’m Tabor,” he said as he put the car jack in place.

“Dani,” I answered. “And thanks.”

“No problem.”

He flashed a smile over his shoulder before he turned back to the tire. I touched my
hair and realized I probably looked like a frazzled mess. Sweat was running down
my spine, my clothes were smudged with dirt and grime, and I was pretty sure my
mascara was trudging into raccoon territory.

“So do you make it a daily ritual to scour the neighborhood for damsels in distress,
or do you happen to live around here?” I asked, though it came out rude and not
playful as I intended.

I was grateful for his help, but it wasn’t coming through in my tone. My friends
always told me my sarcastic, dry personality was off-putting, and when I wanted to
rein it in, I failed miserably.

“Are you asking me if I come here often?” His eyebrow arched slightly over his
sunglasses suggestively and he laughed as I stared at him feeling mortified.

EXCERPT & TEASER

“Christ, I hardly recognized you,” he seethes, the angry bulge in his jaw bone ticking violently. He grabs my arm firmly and pulls me off the concrete steps and into a covered archway away from all the other happy students. “What the fuck, Rey?”

“What are you talking about?” I ask in utter confusion.

He reaches beneath my chin, grabs the zipper and yanks it down harshly. I shove his hands away as my robe is yanked open.

“Fuck, Rey! You’re skin and bones!” Liam’s face is tortured and sickly. Dark circles reside under his eyes but he still looks gorgeous as ever.

“Don’t be ridiculous.” Grabbing the edges of my robe, I cover myself back up, protectively. I’m wearing a short blue shift dress that used to hug every one of my curves but now hangs on me like a potato sack. I know I’ve lost some weight since Marisa but I’m not about to let him scold me like a child over it. “I’m a twenty-five-year-old adult, Liam. I don’t need you chastising me over this.”

“Rey,” he says my name on a sigh. “How can you expect me to ignore this?” His eyes are pleading and pained as they flash between my eyes and my mouth in utter agony.

“I’m not your concern!” I push back my dark hair and squeeze the back of my neck to try to gain some of my control back.

“You made that perfectly clear when you shoved me out of your dorm room. Fuck. How did we get this so utterly wrong?”

“Just leave it, Liam.”

“No.” He grabs my shoulders and turns me to face him. “Don’t you miss me? At all? I miss you like crazy. I feel like I’m mourning two deaths instead of one. It’s like you died on me two weeks ago. And now I see you today and it makes me sick to my stomach that I’ve left you the way I did!” His eyes are shimmering with tears and pain, only adding to the self-loathing I’ve developed the past fourteen days.

My eyes are dead and cold, my voice flat and unaffected. “I told you I wanted nothing to do with you, Liam. I meant it.”

“You’re lying to me. Again!” he roars, angrily punching the concrete wall beside my head.

INTERVIEW WITH THE AUTHOR

Q: Readers are calling Not The One a “painfully beautiful love story.” Why is that? What was the writingprocess like?

A: Writing this book was terrifying. I’ve never been so far outside my comfort zone with any other book. This storyline literally terrified me and I got pretty depressed during the process. It was crazy hard, but crazy cathartic. It feels good to sink into those dark corners sometimes. It makes finding the light that much more magical.

Q: What inspired this story?

A: Well, Reyna was a character in my London Lovers Series that I couldn’t get out of my head. I had an idea for an interesting backstory for her…a mother/daughter dynamic that I’d never read before but could relate to because of some of my own personal struggles. I needed to know more about her, so I wrote it.

Q: But this book isn’t a London Lovers Series novel, correct?

A: Correct. I’m calling it a spinoff. A cross-pollination so to speak. There are characters from my London Lovers, but it reads best as a total standalone.

Q: Who the heck is Frank? And how did you create him?

A: LOL! Ohhh, Frank and Beans. He is my London Lovers secondary standout. He’s a fantastical
redheaded gay Brit that everyone needs in their life. Magically, he fit into Not The One like it was meant to be. Frank is the comedic lightness that this story needed, but he’s so much more. He’s special.

Q: Will he get a story?

A: He is my most requested story. That’s not an answer.
LOL…Let me be “frank” when I tell you…it is a distinct possibility. ;)

Q: Who designed your cover? It’s stunning!

A: I’m so glad you like it because I did! LOL. My sister in law took the photos. We do all of my covers together. We both come armed with cameras and click away until our models can’t take anymore. But I always end up using my sister-in-laws pictures for the cover. I just like to see through the lens instead of my eyes. But I do all my own layout and designing in Photoshop.

Q: And the cover models?

A: All of my covers have just normal people. I never shoot models. The cover models on Not The One are just a couple of local hairdressers that my sister-in-law knew! It’s funny…I had met the girl a couple of times and talked with her briefly about her incredible ink and through the writing process, her tattoos fit my story perfectly. It was kind of chilling.

Q: So what’s next for you?

A: I’m pretty sure I’ll be continuing on this London path for a couple more stories. Without revealing any spoilers, I’m really hoping readers will be interested in one of the characters’ HEA. I’d love to write his story next. And then…finally, Frank and Beans. 

EXCERPT & TEASER

As the bell rings for the end of the day, I stand and take my time walking from class
because let's face it, who wants to have everyone know you drive that clonker?

When I’m almost to the door frame, I’m met by Jade.

“Hey, Cadence, right?” she says.

I look her direction. “Yup. That’s me,” I say with a fake smile. Why can’t these people
leave me alone?

“Just wanted to introduce myself. I’m Jade,” she says as she walks beside me.

“Yeah. I got that from what’s her face.” I toss my head back toward the classroom.

She giggles. “You’re funny.”

I crinkle my nose. I’ve never been called funny before. “Why’s that?” I question.

“’Cause you just called Ms. Luckadoo what’s her face and not to mention you look
like you’re about to run the catwalk at fashion week. You do realize where you are?”

“Well, I couldn’t remember her name and I live for fashion. It's obvious people
around here do not feel the same way.”

“Oh they do, but it’s a different kind.”

“What do you mean?”

Jade takes a moment to gather her thoughts. “Okay, let me give you the run down.” I
can’t wait to hear this. “Most girls around here are up on the latest southern preppy
trends from either Simply Southern, Southern Charm, and Southern Fried Chics.
Every girl here owns boots to work in as well as boots to go out in. Jack Rogers are a
must and we monogram everything.”

“Are you serious? You monogram everything?”

“Yeah. Just look around.” I do and notice every backpack as well as vehicle has
initials on them. What the hell? “Oh and don’t forget the more glitter, the better.”

“That’s insane. Are people afraid they are going to forget their names or something?”
I say smartly.

“Nope, it’s just a southern thang,” she says with a deep southern drawl. “See,” she
says as she shows me her car. Oh gosh, she’s one, too.

“So, tell me more about Lawndale High?” I ask.

“Well, there’s not much to say. I mean, it’s school. The guys here are your typical
country boys. They drive trucks and miss a lot of days the first day of the season.”

“Why would they miss school on the first day of Autumn?” I question.

“Please tell me you didn’t just say that.”

“Um, yeah. The first season to occur while in school is Autumn.”

She starts to shake her head. “Girl, you’ve got a lot to learn around here. Let me spell
it out for you. Bambi, big bucks, big boy toys, trophies on the wall, and food in your
belly.”

EXCERPT & TEASER

I should have suspected something. Instead, when the doorbell rang, I opened the
door without the slightest idea of what was waiting for me.

Beverly showed up on my doorstep along with the man I had tried to keep away all
week.

“Shit,” I said. “What now?”

Brandon smiled, but looked sheepish, which made me worry. He was holding a
bouquet of roses, and handed it to me without saying a word. I took it and thanked
him, and when I locked eyes with his, I felt a million different feelings unleash inside
of me.

He was giving me that hooded, cautious look. His eyes looked a deeper blue than
usual. My eyes fell on his mouth and I realized how much I had missed his touch.
I wanted to jump into his arms, but there was still doubt in my heart and it was
weighing the happy-go-lucky part of me down.

“Okay, so…as you might have guessed by now, you and I aren’t going anywhere,”
Beverly spoke. “But you and Brandon are going on a little adventure–”

“What?” I turned to her snapping out of my Brandon-induced daydream.

“Yes! And you have to leave, like…right now. So, chop-chop!”

I looked at Brandon quizzically. “What do you have to say? Cat got your tongue?” I
joked.

“I want you to come with me. I don’t want to have to persuade you. I’m also afraid
I’m going to spill the beans and ruin the whole thing,” he said.

“You seem pretty good at keeping things to yourself,” I sneered.

“Alright! Easy, woman! Come on, time to go!” She came behind me and started
pushing me towards Brandon’s car.

“Okay, okay!” I took my purse, locked the house and unwillingly walked to the car,
all with the flowers in my arms. “Crap! I forgot about the flowers. I turned to
Beverly. “You have the keys to my house, right? Would you mind putting them in a
vase?”

“I’ll do it,” she replied.

“Thanks.”

“But first, there’s something else I have to do.” She exchanged a look with Brandon
and I stared confused at the two of them.

She got a strip of black fabric out of her purse. What the hell was that?

“Turn around,” she commanded.

“What?”

“Turn around. I have to put this blindfold on you.”

“Seriously?” I gasped. How could these two people be those I used to think I
trusted? “Am I not coming willingly?” I asked Brandon.

“This is her idea,” he replied, tilting his head in Beverly’s direction.

Of course. I should have known. Miss lover of kinky steamy romance novels.

“Well, it’s not necessary,” I argued.

“It totally is,” Beverly rebuffed. “It’s going to ruin the whole surprise. Wear the
motherfucking blindfold or so help me God, Lucy.”

“Okay, okay.” Jeez. Who knew she could be such a Bossypants? “You’re making me
reconsider our friendship, you know,” I told her.

“Lies,” she said, tying the knot behind my head. “All done!” she exclaimed and then
pinched my butt.

“Ouch!”

“Awww, stop it, you sissy. Give me these.” She took the flowers from my arms.
Brandon took my hand and just the feeling of his warm fingers around mine, made
my heart jump a little. I exhaled.

“I promise you, this is going to be good,” he whispered in my ear. God, his voice
sounded even sexier than I remembered.

He helped me in the car and put the seatbelt around me. His lips brushed against
mine just for a second, and I gasped.

“I have to admit, I do like this blindfold,” he teased.

“Of course you do.”

“I almost forgot,” Beverly said. She took my hand and placed some lightweight object
in my hand. It was shaped like a square and it was made of paper.

“What is it?”

“A CD mix. A little ‘sorry for blindfolding you, friend, have a great time on your
mystery road trip’ playlist.”

“Road trip?” I asked.

“Oops, I said too much. Anyway, I’m sure you’re going to hate me a little less after
you listen to it.”

“If you say so.”

“Have a fabulous night and don’t forget to tell your best friend she’s the best when
you end up having a great time.”

“We’ll see about that,” I joked and smiled, but I wondered if she knew I was joking. I
couldn’t see her and wasn’t sure if she was smiling.

“Bye, Lucy. I wuv you!”

“Wuv you too!”

She closed the door, and a moment later I heard Brandon’s door open and he sat in
the passenger seat. He closed his door and started the car.

“Where are we going?” I asked him.

“You’ll see.”

“Well, at the moment, I can’t see anything.” He laughed. It was a warm, rich sound
that eased up the nervousness and made me smile.

“I missed your smile,” he said. “I can’t believe you had the strength to stay away
from me a whole week.”

“Eight days,” I corrected him.

“Were you going to keep giving me the cold shoulder if I hadn’t showed up at your
door?”

“I don’t know.” I heard him exhale a deep breath and wondered if that hurt his
feelings. It was easier to be indifferent to him when he wasn’t around. Now, in the
small space of the car, my head swam in his scent, his words made my heartbeat
speed up, and a warm and fuzzy feeling spread into my chest. The knots in my
stomach dissolved and the words almost come rushing out of my mouth.

“I missed you too.”

“Good,” he said.
