Movie Review : The Girl in the Book

I first saw Emily Vancamp on Brothers & Sisters playing Rebecca Harper but back then I was super clueless about the internet and have no idea who she is until I saw her on Revenge playing Emily/Amanda Clarke, and her performance on that show is amazing. I think one of the reasons why I love Revenge so much is because of her. Most of you might have not seen her other than in Revenge but she did play in a Hallmark movie once. I kinda made a shrieking sound when I first saw the trailer cause she's one of my favorite actress and I'm so happy to see her to be a part of other projects. The movie is called Beyond The Blackboard. It's a really good movie and you guys should check it out :)

Anyway, I didn't know Emily had another movie coming out this year so I was surprised when I saw it online. This movie is about a 28-29 years old woman named Alice Harvey who is working as an assistant editor in a publishing house while at the same time is a writer who's trying her best to write a novel. The movie takes places in two different timeline : 'The Now' and '15 Years Before'. The adult Alice is played by Emily while the younger Alice is played by Ana Mulvoy-Ten.

Based on a True Story (Wikipedia says it so I hope it's true!!), this movies takes us on a journey where Alice is trying to find herself in the world and as a person while at the same time we are taken back to a part of her life that affects her so much. The Now is where her past starts to meet her present while the 15 Years before is when she met with an aspiring author named Milan Daneker played by Michael Nyqvist who was under her father's agency. He offered to help her with her writing but in times he changed and I kinda cringed during a specific scene in the movie (you'll know it when you watch it). I guess those times scarred her and makes her live an unfulfilling life where she goes around having one night stand to maybe feel something. But then she met this really nice and good looking (with a SIX PACK) guy, Emmett (kinda reminds me of Emmett from Switched at Birth hahahaha) who she and I both knows deserve way more then what she's giving him. We also get to see when she knows she needs to change and that's when you know she starts to chase away her demons and gets to experience her true love.

A big round of applause to both actress who played Alice. Their performance was amazing and real. Definitely a memorable one to me. I would really recommend you guys to watch this movie.
Rate : 4.5/5

Director : Marya Cohn
Running Time : 86 Minutes
Rated : Unrated (Have some strong languages and sex)

Notes From Me : My first ever movie review you guys !! This movie kinda inspired me to write this review and I really hope you guys like it. There might be some grammatical error so I'm sorry in advance :D And of course any feedback is welcome, would really love to hear your opinions on my review and on the movie or on any other things too :)

EXCERPT

“Don’t speak about something you don’t understand, all right? Whatever Katie has
told you, that’s all it is...a piece of a much bigger pie. You don’t know me, and no
matter what you think, you don’t know her either.”

Chad crossed his arms in front of his chest, not sure what to say next. From the
corner of his eye, he could see Katie stomping through the tall grass towards them.

The dust from Jay’s car had finally billowed into the garden where she’d been
working.

“Are you warning me about her...Jay?” Chad locked eyes with him, his gaze never
wavering even though Katie was getting closer with each step.

Jay slammed the car door, wearing a muted grin as he matched Chad’s pose, crossing
his own arms and pulling himself up to his full height, at least three inches taller
than Chad’s five feet and eleven inches. “She used to be different, that’s all. Calm
yourself, will you? I’m just telling you, you don’t know the real Katie. To be honest,
you probably never will. The real Katie we all knew and loved died along with her
father. My Katie is gone, so like I said, don’t talk about things you only think you
understand.”

Thankfully, Chad didn’t have to form a response, not that he knew what he would
say to that, anyway. Katie’s feet hit the gravel just as Chad had opened his mouth to
speak; however, the look on her face evoked enough uncertainty in him that he
swiftly closed it again.

“You said you were picking Mason up at five thirty. It’s only a few minutes past five.”

Katie consulted her watch as though to confirm it, lifting her head to glare at Jay
again.

“I’m a few minutes early. I wanted to see how everything was going.”

“Everything is just fine, Jay. You can come back in twenty seven minutes.” Katie
didn’t look at Chad as she brushed past the two men and headed for the house,
where Chad knew Mason was currently packing up his clothes and Nintendo DS to
take with him.

“Katie, wait...” Jay’s pleas went unanswered, the screen door banging closed abruptly
behind her. Only a defeated sigh sounded in the thick silence between them, and
Chad uneasily turned away from the other man, intent on cleaning up his mess near
the barn wall and getting the hell out of dodge before this situation got any more
heated. Jay, on the other hand, didn’t have the same intentions.

“See? What’d I tell you? She’s impossible.”

“No. She’s hurt. There’s a difference.” Chad didn’t look at him. Instead, he plucked
the hammer and tin can full of nails from the ground and pretended to admire his
handiwork on the barn wall.

“You seem to know a lot about my girlfriend and her—“

“Ex.”

“What?”

“She’s your ex-girlfriend.”

Jay stared at him, seeming to mull over how to react. Chad couldn’t be sure whether
it was humiliation or anger that clouded the man’s clean shaven face, maybe a bit of
both. Either way, Chad didn’t fear him, and he stared back, unblinking.

“Good to meet you, Chad.” Jay’s tone was condescending and gruff.

“See you in twenty four minutes,” Chad replied, and the hint of a smirk crossed his
face the moment he broke eye contact and turned away.

About The Author

M. Lynne Cunning has always wanted to be an author, but it wasn’t until she
discovered National Novel Writing Month and all the insanity that goes along with it
that she began to truly realize her love for writing stories. While she doesn’t limit
herself to writing only specific genres, her first two published novels, Until I'm
Found and Blurred Lines, are considered Romantic Suspense. Her new book, Who I
Am With You (to be released February 2016), will be the first in a contemporary
romance series. She also doesn’t believe that the traditional typical “happily ever
after” is always the way to go. You’ve been forewarned.

She is almost always reading or writing, but also enjoys spending time and traveling
with her husband/best friend, Dennis, and is the proud dog-mom of two brindle
boxers. She’s also a too-far-gone coffee addict and a lifelong country music fan.

EXCERPT

When a picture of the pond pops up on the screen, my breath hitches in my chest. With the moon
beaming down and reflecting off the glass-like water, it’s more than beautiful. It’s tranquil, peaceful, but most of all, it reminds me of her. I can almost see us there, our feet hanging off the side, our shoulders grazing every once in a while. She looked so gorgeous in the moonlight. I wish I had a picture of that, but this is a close second.

“That looks like something straight out of a magazine,” I whisper before I realize what I’m saying.

“Hopefully, it will be.” She laughs.

“How much for a print of that?” I ask.

“Really? You’d want—”

“Yes,” I cut her off, “I’d love to have one of your pictures.”

“Well, it’s yours. I’ll order the prints once I’m back in New York and have them sent directly to you.”

“Let me pay.”

“No, it’s my pleasure. Really.”

“Give me your phone,” I instruct, and she willingly hands it over. I put my phone number in as a new contact and shoot myself a text before handing it back. “I have your number now, so I’ll text you my
address.”

“Okay,” she says, smiling.

“Okay.” For the hundredth time today, I find myself staring at her lips for longer than necessary, wanting to bend down and kiss the shit out of her. She swallows hard and I abruptly break my gaze. Turning around, I leave in search of something to do before I get myself in trouble.

About The Author

First things first, we're the realest.

Oh, wait. Iggy already used that one.

Well, let's see...

What some people don't know is there are two of us and we're both Jennifers. How lucky are we? The most common name from the 70's! Our parents were so original.

We found each other through Twilight and tornadoes. Sounds like a crazy combination, but it's true. We were roaming around in the same groups of people on social media, but we hadn't really became
friends. But that all changed on a stormy Oklahoma night when we noticed that we were both
experiencing the same tornado warnings.

We met a week later for lunch and the rest is history. We already knew we had the whole Twilight thing in common, but what we learned that day is that we both loved music and traveling. Together, we've been everywhere. Well, not everywhere, but a lot of places...Seattle, Forks, LA, New York, Chicago, Philly, Nashville, and New Orleans, where our hearts reside.

About six months after we met, we also realized we both had a passion for writing. When we started
outlining our first story, we thought that would be it. One story and done. So, we dumped everything we loved into those 100,000 words. If you're familiar with the term "crack fic", that was kind of what it was for us. We had fun with it and let ourselves live on those pages.

But it was like Lays potato chips.

We couldn't write just one.

So, twenty stories later, here we are--publishing our first novel. And how crazy is it that we went back to the beginning.

Finding Focus was originally a Twilight Fan Fic titled Southern Comfort.

Cover Reveal : Chasing Spring

I thought I’d left Blackwater, Texas behind for good. I didn’t belong in the small town, but my dad
wouldn’t listen. He dragged me back home in his beat-up truck and dropped a bomb along the way:
Chase Matthews was moving in with us. He was the golden boy of my high school, my former best
friend, and the last person I wanted sleeping across the hall. His presence was too great a reminder of
the ghosts I was trying to forget.

I didn’t ask for a hero. I don’t want to be saved.

To me, Lilah Calloway meant late nights sneakin’ out, moonlit hair, and sparklers in July. She was my best friend until the day she left and I’d assumed Blackwater had seen the last of her. Then, like a
tempest, she rolled back into town for the final half of senior year. The chopped hair and dark devil-
may-care attitude warned most people away, but I knew if I fought hard enough, I could find the lost
girl.

I didn’t want to be her hero. Some girls don’t need to be saved.

About The Author

I am a lover of books, chocolate, reality TV, black labs, and cold weather. Seriously, if I had it my way, I would be curled up on the couch with all of those things... everyday.

I live in Texas where I spend my free time writing and reading. My favorite authors include Mindy Kaling & Jonathan Safran Foer. I'm a comedy geek and love all things "funny". Women like Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, and Mindy Kaling are definitely the biggest inspirations for my writing, though I think my work tends to skew a bit smuttier than theirs.

Notes From Me : I've been following R.S Grey works for a while now. And I've read a few of her books and so far I loved every single one of it. She have her way with making characters that are very relatable and easy to fall in love with. I can't wait for this new book, I mean look at that cover ! It's beautiful and simple :)
